News > Locally produced Nissan Navara delivers as promised

Nissan South Africa has announced orders for the long-anticipated locally-produced Nissan Navara bakkie range have opened. Production is due to start at the Nissan plant in Rosslyn in June 2021 following a significant investment from Nissan to prepare the plant for the new model line. Prices are set to start from R311 000 for the Navara 2.5 Petrol XE Single Cab and R474 000 for the Navara 2.5D SE MT Double Cab. These newly updated models are primed to compete in the 1-ton pickup segment here in SA according to Stefan Haasbroek, Marketing Director at Nissan South Africa.

"With the introduction of the all-new Navara pickup in South Africa, we are confident that the significant technical changes implemented across our extensive line-up, will deliver the ultimate customer experience, with enhanced ride comfort, load-carrying capacity, and a powertrain selected specifically for the South African market," says Haasbroek.

The new Navara is the latest Nissan bakkie in a long line of respected and loved bakkies that have proven themselves in the tough South African market for decades. This new generation is better than ever before, ready to you and your family on great adventures or ready to be the perfect hardworking partner for your business.

The new single cab is offered with a 2.5L DDTi Diesel mid-output (XE and SE models), fitted with dual overhead camshafts, direct injection, turbocharger and an intercooler it produces 120kW of power and 403Nm of torque, class-leading and sure to be popular here in SA.

"It’s an amazing achievement to see the full set of exciting models for the next generation Navara which offer customers a choice of both single, and double-cab, 2WD and 4WD options, and a choice of automatic and manual transmissions too,” Haasbroek said. “This is a fiercely competitive segment, and we are determined to meet and exceed customer needs,” he added.

A comfortable ride across all of South Africa’s spectacular terrains
As expected the new Navara will offer fantastic balance, handling and performance both on and off-road, A revised chassis offers less vibration, better rear height and improves shock absorber damping. All models in the range were tested here in South Africa and tuned to make sure they are 100% up to the task of handling our rugged but beautiful country.

Tough 4X4 power for difficult terrain
The Navara’s shift-on-the-fly 4x4 gearbox allows drivers to seamlessly shift between 2WD and 4WD depending on their needs with 4WD offering increased traction and off-road performance while 2WD offering greater fuel efficiency for every day driving. The 4WD system continuously monitors grip between the front and rear wheels and uses an Active Brake Limited Slip Differential system (ABLS) to manage power delivery to ensure maximum performance wherever you are. Of course, when things get tough there is also 4LO to give you that extra oomph.

Giving you a bigger and more balanced payload
Now with a bigger payload of 100kg the Navara is ready to carry everything you need and get it anywhere you need it. An increase of 36mm in the front and 64mm in the rear height of the load-box is where this gain comes from. SE Plus and LE models now also come standard with a step on the rear bumper and an easy-lift tailgate to make loading and unloading a breeze.

If your still looking for more space the Navara has you covered, the new Trailer Sway Control (TSC) system means you can tow anything worry-free as the system automatically corrects an abnormal trailer oscillation.

A vehicle to delight and empower our customers
“We have invested substantially in improvements to the noise, vibration, and harshness reduction for a very quiet and comfortable drive, which bears testimony to improvements made on suspension range and powertrain capability. The Navara line-up also features additional safety technology through Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM), and offers a host of cabin features including an 8” touch screen with NissanConnect, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay all to delight and empower our customers,” said Haasbroek.

With a powerful and distinctive new front end, the Navara offers value for money, performance and style. Now being locally produced it will be even more competitive and easy to maintain. For more info or to place an order, visit William Simpson Nissan today.
