News > 2016 Nissan NP300: The Next-Gen Navara is Nearly Here
The All-New Nissan Navara Double Cab and King Cab is moments away from hitting our streets and we are bursting at the leather seat seams to tell you all about it!
The Nissan Navara has been a South-African crowd pleaser since the ‘90s as the double-cab of choice for hard work and even harder playtime. But now, after more than eleven years, the Nissan Navara is getting a well-deserved make over.
But don’t just take our word for it – you’ll soon be able to test-drive this bad boy sooner than you can say, “Next-gen Navara”!
Exterior & Payload Highlights
From a high-level approach, the exterior of the new Navara has received a redesigned front grille with an updated bumper and sleekly-styled bonnet (or hood for our American brothers). It’s not all looks and no substance, this bakkie can haul up to a 1-tonne load or pull up to 3.5-tonnes from the tow bar (but make sure you’re not hauling and pulling at the same time.
An Improved & Inspired Interior
The new Nissan NP300 Navara definitely nods towards the SUV with its improved trim, finishes and overall interior technology, while still retaining its commercial core – with a solid cabin that is hardwearing yet comfortable.
Some of the interior features vary from standard to high-spec, but they can include:
- Traditional rear bench seat with conventional door arrangement for the Double-Cab
- 2 comfy ‘cinema-style’ rear seats that flip down with 2-hinged back doors on the King-Cab
- Refined black interior trim, leather steering wheel and gear knob
- Metal-effect interior accent pieces that subtly highlight the interior
- Touch screen infotainment system with built-in navigation
- Surround-view monitor which is a nifty feature for such a large vehicle
- Ample legroom & space for 4 passengers
- More ergonomic rear seats for a more comfortable seating position
The new Nissan NP300 Navara marries upmarket feel with updated tech and urban appeal through upgraded styling, features and power.
New 2016 Nissan Navara Specs
Although some of the engine specifications are still under speculation, we are confident that our new favourite bakkie will be offered in 2WD or 4WD with the marrying of either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed automatic transmission.
The solid frame and quality material build gives the new Nissan Navara increased stability , where the suspected 2.3L turbo-diesel engine (or the twin-turbo) could deliver between 120kW and 140kW, whilst being 24% more efficient than the old 2.5L. Add to that, the current 3L V6 diesel that produces 170kW and you have a line-up of Herculean power under these hoods.
Nissan Navara: A Range of Firsts
Not only could SA receive the twin turbo technology to add to its engine line-up (a first for Nissan in the bakkie sector) but we will see a precedent being set with independent suspension for the Nissan Navara double-cab.
The multi-link suspension utilises the 5-link setup to reduce wobble to deliver a smoother, more refined ride. Plus a new rubber seal placed between the cab and the load bed reduces excessive shaking and cushions quite effectively.
Backseat passengers will notice (and rejoice) over the reduction in vibration in the double-cab, making long journeys fairly jiggle-free.
The Best 4x4 Nissan’s Made by Far
The improved driving experience of the 2016 Nissan Navara can be felt both on and off the road. The new model handles better around corners and manoeuvres with greater accuracy as the wheels hug the tar. On the road, you can see the difference but off the road, you can truly feel the difference.
Nissan has proven that their electronic 4WD derivative gives plenty of push when you really need it. The 4WD system comes with the following:
- Low range box, hill descent control & superior axle articulation
- Rear diff-lock will be optional
- Wil come with 3 settings: 2H, 4H & 4L
The lightweight construction of the new Nissan Navara helps the NP300 feel far lighter and nimble – for such a hearty, boisterous bakkie.
The sheer quality build and comfortable interior plus having class-leading tech under the hood that can turn any long trek into an adventurous journey.
The new Nissan NP300 Navara narrows the gap on the commercial-grade, rough and tough workhorse bakkie with the comfortable easy riding of a standard SUV. Well worth the wait but now we can’t wait to feel the roar below our feet!
